Baotou City has fully completed its 2026 forestry pest control tasks, with a total treated area of 146,300 mu and no major forestry pest disasters occurring, according to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Forestry and Grassland Bureau.

In 2026, Baotou strictly implemented the prevention and control principle of "prevention first, scientific management, law-based supervision, and strengthened responsibility," focusing on annual control targets and carrying out pest monitoring, scientific prevention, and quarantine supervision.

Baotou deployed a new ecological pest control "black technology" 鈥?special trapping devices for tent caterpillars 鈥?to protect forest and grassland resources through green control methods.

The city built a dense monitoring and early warning network, establishing a four-level grid monitoring system covering the city, banners and counties, townships (sumu), and management stations. It integrated forest and grassland rangers and forecast personnel, combining "ground patrols and drone inspections" to conduct regular and special surveys of wood-boring pests, leaf-eating pests, and rodents (rabbits), dynamically updating pest records.

Trapping equipment and pest forecasting points were used to promptly assess outbreak trends and accurately issue pest warning information, seizing the prevention window and achieving full monitoring coverage and early warning of hidden dangers.

At the same time, scientific and green prevention was maintained, with comprehensive treatment tailored to different situations. Mechanical spraying was used in concentrated contiguous areas, while green control measures such as manual pruning, removal of dead trees, and biological agents were organized for scattered plots, continuously increasing the proportion of pollution-free prevention.

Prevention operation standards were strictly implemented, with green and environmentally friendly pesticides scientifically selected and pesticide packaging properly handled. Residential areas, water sources, and bee and silkworm breeding zones were strictly avoided, firmly safeguarding ecological security and production safety.

In addition, quarantine supervision was strictly enforced to block the invasion and spread of quarantine pests. Origin quarantine, transport quarantine, and re-inspection work were continuously strengthened, with close attention to seedlings, timber, and wood-related products. Inspections of nurseries, wood processing enterprises, and seedling trading markets were intensified.

A total of 3,281,800 seedlings were quarantined for transport, 246.49 cubic meters were re-inspected, and 38,993,700 seedlings were quarantined at origin. "Double random, one open" spot checks were organized on wood-related enterprises, and a special "pine protection action" was carried out to crack down on illegal transport of infected wood and strictly prevent the invasion of pine wood nematode disease.
