Volaris' (VLRS) pending merger with Viva Aerobus is set to be approved by Mexico's antitrust body before the end of the year, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing six unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
The antitrust authority, known as CNA, is expected to require the merged company, to be called Grupo Mas Vuelos, to avoid widespread layoffs and keep fares low, the report said. CNA is also expected to require the new entity to mostly maintain the airlines' current routes, the sources said.
Volaris and Viva Aerobus didn't immediately reply to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
