Linde is quietly emerging as one of the more compelling ways to play the AI and semiconductor buildout without owning a pure-play tech name.
While most investors focus on chip designers and equipment makers, the world's largest industrial gases company is locking in multiyear, high-purity gas supply contracts that are essential to advanced semiconductor fabrication.
With a solid analyst consensus Buy rating and average price targets implying low-double-digit-upside from current levels, the stock offers a rare combination of defensive cash-flow characteristics and accelerating exposure to one of the strongest secular growth themes in the market.
Linde remains a top constituent within the State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF, a group that has largely kept pace with the broader market, up 10% this year. However, short-term performance has stumbled, with materials ranking ninth among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors over the past month with a 2% decline. While market participants often associate the group primarily with gold and precious metals, specialty chemicals actually comprise nearly half of the fund's weighting.
Over a three-month look back period, LIN has demonstrated superior relative strength against its peer group, advancing 5% while key sector rivals, including Sherwin-Williams, Air Products & Chemicals, Dow Inc., and DuPont, have all posted negative returns.
Let's explore why this stock could have a strong road map into 2027 on the daily and weekly charts.
Looking at the daily chart, the ratio chart against the XLB highlights steady outperformance over the past month, with a new cup base rapidly taking shape. This current structure builds on a long-term advance that launched following a Dec. 9, 2025, bullish harami. The stock currently trades 11% below its 52-week peak after completing a bearish evening star on July 7, where a doji two sessions later initiated a 100-point drawdown. Downside momentum finally halted on Sept. 18, when a bullish hammer printed on double the average daily volume.
That high-volume reversal signal is now constructing the right side of a potential cup base, bolstered by a sharp thrust back above the key 21-day exponential moving average. Reclaiming this short-term trendline is particularly encouraging, as it previously provided consistent support from late December through early July when a delayed breakdown from a bearish rising wedge pattern occurred.
With moving average support re-established and base construction maturing, the daily chart offers a compelling risk-managed entry setup. One can enter here and the stock could reach $650 by mid 2027, a 33% gain from current prices. Remain bullish above $475.
Linde was trading around $492 Tuesday.
Turning to the weekly chart, the ratio chart against the XLB demonstrates a sustained multiyear uptrend dating back to early 2024, building on two prior years of powerful relative outperformance. Price action recently reclaimed its 50-week simple moving average, a key structural milestone.
Reclaiming this moving average has historically served as a potent bullish signal. In two of the previous three occurrences, specifically in November 2022 and February 2024, the stock logged strong multi-month price advances immediately following the move.
The recent recovery follows a bullish engulfing candle during the week ending Dec. 12, which sparked a 4.5% single-week bounce directly off the 200-week simple moving average. Equally impressive is LIN's reclaim of the critical $480 resistance zone, a stubborn overhead barrier that previously capped rallies in April -- May 2024, August -- October 2024, and again in August -- October 2025.
If price action decisively pushes higher and distances itself from this $480 anchor zone, a double-bottom base will form with a trigger of $494.60.
